I traveled to Germany and Belgium in June/July 2022 and noticed the following initiatives related to sustainability

• At a Belgian bakery, when you buy a dessert in a glass jar, the price includes a 1 euro deposit for the empty jar, so you can bring it back cleaned the next day to get the 1 euro back. It also encourages you to return to the bakery and of course buy some more bread/pastries because, really, who could resist?
• In Germany, all plastic bottles are returnable for a small deposit and most people appear to be doing it. You must keep the label on the bottle, so if you are like me and have this nervous tic of always undressing your bottles, this is a problem.
